REALM Teachers

We are looking for bright, quirky, passionate, outside-the-box-thinking individuals who inspire students to explore learning and ask questions!

We need K- 8th grade teachers who are/can:

        • Develop strong writers and researchers at a middle school level who have excellent command of form, organization and structure as writers; but can also explore and cultivate each individual’s idiosyncrasies to develop their individualized style.
        • Introduce middle school level science that expands beyond the textbook and into all the current and future relevant nooks of the world. We want students to question, discuss, experiment, fail, and continuously revise their hypotheses.
        • Early literacy masters- We want teachers who can inspire students with the great works of authors that currently exist and have students express their ideas through brave, diverse opportunities.
        • Radical Musicians– We are looking for a person who can teach piano, guitar, sing, or develop a rock band for kids. We have students who perform at all levels of ability (k-8th grade).

Each applicant must:

        • Be a person who sees the potential in all kids, and helps them find their way without judgement.
        • Be someone with contagious passions.
        • Be a person who loves to write and customize curriculum for an age group within K-8th grade.
        • Be a lifelong learner and a teacher who explores life with their students.
        • Be available part time or full time.

REALM Tutors

We are looking for tutors that can support students to reach individual academic goals, as well as support students to investigate and dig deeper into an area that excites them.  Tutors at The REALM have a unique and individual approach to supporting academic and social growth in their students; they create individualized curriculum and plans based on their unique teaching styles and the students needs.

Prior to creating a fully customized plan, tutors will meet with the students to assess their current skill level. Tutors will record progress for each session and will communicate weekly with parents to share achievements, struggles and goals.

Tutoring is available in all academic subject areas and is custom-tailored to fit individual students learning objectives.  We offer tutoring in math, literacy (reading, writing, and comprehension), science, and Spanish. Tutoring sessions are offered any time of day, not just after-school.

Qualifications:

    • Associate degree required
    • Teaching certificate preferred
    • 3+ years’ experience tutoring
    • Able to develop positive rapport with students and families
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Able to accurately access student in subject area
    • Demonstrated ability to support students in meeting goals
    • A love of teaching and a passion to learn

Camp Counselors

Calling all creative, fun-loving and enthusiastic types looking for an amazing opportunity!  The REALM Creative Academy is looking to hire a few talented camp counselors for an amazingly fun, dynamic and unique camp!  If you are interested in joining our team, please see the qualifications below.

Qualifications:

• Loves kids
• Demonstrated experience working with children
• Ability to teach and lead various recreational activities
• Excellent character, integrity and adaptability
• Ability to communicate and work with a variety of age and skill levels
• The desire and ability to work in a cooperative, team-oriented atmosphere
• Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience and self-control
• Pass a CA State run background check.
• Completed one year of college and at least 18 years of age
• Need to be available for training which will be announced.

Counselor Responsibilities:
• Take primary responsibility for the health, well-being and happiness of campers
• Learn the interests and unique greatness of each camper
• Recognize and respond to opportunities for group problem solving
• Provide opportunities for the group so that each individual experiences success while at camp
• Set a good example for campers in all areas, including cleanliness, punctuality, clean-up chores, rules, and sportsmanship
• Guide campers in participating successfully in all aspects of camp activities
• Supervise, assist instructors and actively participate in all aspects of the campers’ day.
• Observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques
