Piano | Guitar | Ukulele | Accordion | Brass Instruments | Composition & Music Theory
Is your child interested in piano lessons? How about guitar, ukulele, brass instruments, composition & music theory lessons, or even the accordion? The REALM offers private music lessons! As with everything here, lessons are tailored to meet the students’ musical/learning goals and learning styles. Students will also have the opportunity to share their accomplishments each year at a music recital.
Jimmy Murn Guitar lessons (and songwriting classes) are taught by Jimmy, who has 22 years of guitar playing under his belt. Armed with math skills and the spirit of rock and roll, immersing himself in the guitar-based pop lexicon, he is self-taught. Jimmy has played rhythm and lead guitars, as well as done singing and songwriting in various pop-punk bands and solo since 1996. His latest outfit was Jimmy Murn & The Heymakers who cut a record and toured East Coast in 2012. Rhythm and practice are the key components – with these anyone can learn to play; add the building blocks of scales and chords and let’s have some fun!
Mike Bolger “Brass and Keys as You Please” serves as Mike Bolger’s professional mantra, and he brings his multi-instrumentalist skills as well as his musical flexibility to The REALM teaching piano, accordion, trumpet, trombone, and other brass instruments. Mike has been teaching in various capacities for 18 years and his experience includes: music-specific substitute teacher for the LAUSD, LACER after school program, and he currently teaches for the Silverlake Conservatory of Music where he has been since 2001. He’s had experience with all age groups, ensemble and classroom environments, and private lessons. He received his training at UCLA and Cal Arts and continues to be an active member of the musical community in LA with an impressive list of credits including: Jewel, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sponge Bob Squarepants, Jimmy Cliff, and Ry Cooder, to name a few. Mike brings a mix of practical “ear training” and technical exercises to begin making music from an early point to keep his students engaged. He provides a lot of his own instructional material to facilitate the process of playing by ear, and has had great success getting people of all ages to make and understand music through his method.
Pete Emperador Hi Everyone! My name is Peter Emperador, but you can call me Pete. I am absolutely elated to be teaching at the REALM.
A brief history of Pete…I was born and raised in Sacramento, CA. I migrated to Los Angeles to attend college for Film and Television and was immediately sucked into the music scene, joined a band, wrote, produced, published and released a plethora of music. Along the way, I became a preschool teacher, a music instructor and a business owner.
As an early childhood educator, I have over 15 years of preschool instruction experience working with kids of all learning abilities.
Currently, I teach guitar, piano and drums to kids and adults of all ages – specializing in children with developmental disabilities.
Recently, I co-founded MAPS Social Skills Intervention Program which serves the special needs population offering an evidence based music and arts intervention for peer socialization.
Music has always been a passion of mine. Sharing my passion for music of all genres has been and continues to be a great tool for creating a joyful learning environment and a positive relationship with music and the arts… Except for the “practice your music” part. That part, we’ll have to play by ear.
